Durham University Concert Band is proud to present Folklore, an evening of thrilling musical numbers including folk tunes from around the world.


Tap your feet to highlights from Lord of the Dance and you'll get to experience English Folk Song Suite, one of our entries to this year's National Concert Band Festival. We also take you around the world with Arirang and Akatonbu, beautifully combining beloved Korean and Japanese folk tunes. All this and many more, including some livelier show tunes you'll be sure to know!

Romeo and Juliet

Set in the turbulent heart of the French Revolution, the timeless tale of Romeo and Juliet details the fate of two ‘star-crossed lovers’, whose dizzying romantic entanglement ends in tragedy.

Durham University Classical Theatre are proud to present our annual Shakespeare production, Romeo and Juliet. In this fresh take on the Shakespearean classic, the story unfolds amid the turmoil of the French Revolution.


Juliet is the daughter of an aristocratic family loyal to the monarchy, while Romeo is a passionate revolutionary fighting for liberty and equality. Their love blossoms in secret against the violent backdrop of political upheaval and shifting alliances. As tensions rise, Romeo and Juliet's entanglement reaches boiling point, in an ending testament to the unbridled power of true love.

Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony

Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony

Featuring the sunny sound of Felix Mendelssohn’s wonderful ‘Italian Symphony’, based on his voyage through the country, as well as Gerald Finzi’s virtuosic and melodic Clarinet Concerto with soloist James Riley.


This concert also includes a world premiere of Durham student Ella Stephens’ composition describing the flow of a river from source to sea and Anna Clyne’s folk-inspired and modern PIVOT.

Vivaldi 'Gloria'

Described by the Guardian as possessing a "gloriously warm and finely balanced sound" at their concert at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music, Durham University Choral Society and conductor John Forsyth MBE present an energetic programme of Baroque works in the magnificent surroundings of Newcastle Cathedral.


Featuring showpieces such as the ever-popular Vivaldi 'Gloria' alongside Handel's Dixit Dominus, this concert promises unremitting energy and framatic intensity from one of the finest choirs in the region.

Harmony Beyond Borders

Experience an Epiphany of your own at Gospel Choir’s Epiphany Showcase: “Harmony Without Borders” Hear toe-tapping Gospel classics and well-known songs infused with rousing gospel harmonies.


We will be performing a wide-ranging repertoire that spans a variety of genres linked together by strong gospel influences, paying homage to its rich African-American cultural heritage. You will also have the chance to hear the voices of our talented members in resounding clarity through small ensemble performances of individually arranged pieces.  We will also be sharing the work we have been doing throughout this year in educating and spreading awareness around Equality Diversity and Inclusion in Durham and throughout the North East.


From essential Gospel classics like “Rain” and stirring spirituals like “Steal Away”and “The Colour Purple”; to well-known hits invigorated with Gospel flair such as “You Got The Love” and “God’s Plan” you will leave inspired, energised and uplifted by the melodious voices of our large, friendly choir. It’s a night not to be missed, and we hope to see you there!

Join DU Classical Ensemble on March 18th for "Awakening", a concert guiding the listener through the hardships of Winter to the joyful release of Spring. This carefully curated program showcases the incredible variety of music for Chamber Orchestra, challenging expectations along the way. Experience the wintry chill of Corelli’s "Concerto for Christmas Night" and Vivaldi’s stormy "Concerto Grosso in G minor", the drama of Gluck’s "Dance of the Furies", and finally the warmth and breadth of Beethoven’s "Pastoral" Symphony no. 6, a celebration of nature’s renewal.

Join the Palatinate Ensemble for an evening of joyous music-making, featuring works by Brahms, Schubert and more!


The Palatinate Ensemble invites you to join them for their Epiphany term concert 'Spring Melodies' for what promises to be a joyous evening! Conducted by Michael Kohn, the concert features Brahms' Serenade No.1 in D Major - a work that combines charm, elegance and a deep sense of warmth.


Smaller ensemble performances will feature the first movement of Schubert's 'Death and the Maiden' (Quartet No. 14), Dohnanyi's 'Serenade for String Trio', and Ferenc Farkas 'Old Hungarian Dances of the 17th Century'.

St Mary's College's 125th Anniversary Play

Celebrating St Mary's College’s 125th anniversary, Foot of the Hill Theatre Company has assembled a group of student writers to delve into the rich and empowering history of our beloved college from past to present.


This student-written piece celebrates the 125-year history of St Mary’s College. Drawing inspiration from a vast collection of archived books and alumni experiences, you will be whisked through 125 years of St Mary’s. This play highlights the college’s feminist legacy, illustrating how far women have come in terms of educational rights and access to celebrate both past and present Mary’s students.
