Please follow the instructions below on how to complete your registration.

Below you can purchase Performing Arts Memberships. These last 12 months from the point of purchase. This is a prerequisite to becoming involved in any of our groups in either an on- or off-stage capacity.

Do note that some of our Durham Student Organisations also require subscriptions. These range from £10 to £40. These are in addition to Performing Arts Membership. Should you want to be a member of any of these groups then please also select which membership you'd like to purchase in addition to your Performing Arts membership. This will add the additional membership to your order. You only have to pay this extra sub for this once you are involved in a production. You do not require membership to either audition or interview for a role.

Performing Arts Membership

Performing Arts Membership
All practitioners of performing arts at Durham University are required to hold a Performing Arts membership. This gives you access to join all Music and Theatre societies (some additional fees may be required), all University equipment (as available), and significant discounts on standard ticket prices.

Big Band Subscription Fee

Big Band Subscription Fee
DUBB is the university's flagship jazz ensemble. Founded in 1998, we're a welcoming, diverse 18-piece, auditioned Big Band playing a range of challenging repertoire, including new commissions and premiers.

Brass Band Subscription Fees
Our Brass Band is a thriving non auditioned society at Durham, and is one of our most active. The band holds multiple concerts each year, alongside it’s frequent attendance at national competitions including UniBrass and key brass banding events, such as Whit Friday and Durham Miner’s Gala.

Chamber Choir Subscription Fees
Durham University Chamber Choir is one of the finest university choirs in the country. With varied, interesting and technical programmes, DUCC rival professional choirs in sound. Consisting of 24 of the university’s best singers, they have recently performed concerts in Durham Cathedral’s Chapter House, Durham Castle’s Great Hall and St Oswald’s Church.

Durham University Choral Society is Durham's largest and oldest music society, boasting over 100 auditioned voices and partaking in ambitious yearly projects, recently including Beethoven's Ninth Symphony to celebrate the 200th anniversary of its writing, or partaking in the National Big Bruckner Weekend alongside the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

The Classical Ensemble performs a range of repertoire from the baroque and classical periods as an intimate chamber orchestra. They focus on repertoire written prior to 1832, and enjoy exploring diverse repertoire from this time period.

One of Durham Student Music’s largest and busiest societies, Durham University Concert Band is a non auditioned society with an aim to consistently perform fun and exciting concerts, for both audiences and performers.

Dunelm Consort Subscription Fees
Dunelm Consort & Players is the university’s early music ensemble, performing works from the medieval, baroque, and early classical periods. Dunelm is unique in its nature, running as a project based ensemble, and inviting members to perform in each project.

Durham Dynamics Subscription Fee
Durham Dynamics are a large mixed a cappella choir of around 18 members, promoting a no-pressure environment with an emphasis on making joyful and fun music. The group perform both in and out of Durham, with frequent appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and their 2022 show was rated five stars by multiple viewers.

Foot Notes are close-harmony group of mixed voices, tackling repertoire “from Bach to Beyonce”.

Full Score Subscription Fees

Full Score Subscription Fees
Full Score are Durham's Barbershop choir, singing a style of 4-part close harmony a cappella. With weekly rehearsals, they are a mixed voice choir of around 20 singers, singing everything from Disney and musical theatre to jazz standards and more.

Gospel Choir Subscription Fees
Gospel Choir are consistent finalists at the the Universal Gospel Choir Competition, and are one of the most exciting societies at Durham. Alongside their own concerts, they perform at college formals, charity concerts and Student Music events.

Hill Orchestra Subscription Fees

Hill Orchestra Subscription Fees
Hill Orchestra is Durham’s only non auditioned student orchestra, performing a range of music from film scores to classical hits including Sibelius’ Finlandia. Every year, DUHO performs multiple times in Durham’s historic venues such as the Castle Great Hall, St Oswald’s Church and more.

Jazz Orchestra Subscriptions
Durham University Jazz Orchestra is one Durham’s newer societies, formed in 2021, giving more opportunity for Big Band playing within Durham and promote the genre to a wider audience. Within their sort lifespan so far, they’ve enjoyed multiple sold out gigs, including collaborations with DU Big Band and Jazz Society, and their tight-knit community has become a key part of the Jazz community in Durham.

Jazz Society Subsciption Fees
Jazz Society is the main hub of all jazz related activity in the University. They put on many different events throughout the year, ranging from masterclasses, to various themed gigs and balls and their staple Jazz Jams every Sunday night in Fabio’s Bar, where anyone can come to play some standards or just listen. Guest Masterclass leaders have included Asaf Sirkis, Gareth Lockrane and Sue Ferris.

Northern Lights Subscription Fee
Northern Lights is Durham University's flagship A Cappella group. Competing annually, they are 5x National A Cappella Champions and currently 3rd internationally. They are a collective of 14-16 passionate singers who perform at all kinds of events, from balls, weddings, fashion shows and corporate events to their own gigs, making an annual appearance at the Gala Theatre.

Orchestral Society Mmbship Fee
Formed in 1965, the Orchestral society is Durham University’s oldest orchestra, and one of its leading music societies – performing some of the most ambitious repertoire in the University. Encompassing both a symphony and chamber orchestra, DUOS has a busy programme of concerts, events, and tours each academic year, regularly performing in Durham Cathedral, Gala Theatre, and Town Hall.
