As You Like It

As You Like It

‘All the world’s a stage.’ Castle Theatre Company takes one of Shakespeare’s most famous sayings literally, and, for our summer tour’s sapphire anniversary, is delighted to announce our 2024 touring production of one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies: As You Like It. When a court falls into distrust and disrepair, brothers will bicker, friends will flee and shepherds will sing.

Rosalind, disguised as a fiery young man called Ganymede, along with her best friend Celia and their voracious fool Touchstone flee to the Forest of Arden to find a new home. Orlando, out of fear of his elder brother Oliver, hides in the forest where he meets Ganymede who promises to cure him of his love for Rosalind. Meanwhile the shepherd Silvius attempts to woo the shepherdess Phebe who has fallen in love with Ganymede and Touchstone uses his relationship with Audrey to taunt the hapless William. As the pessimistic Jaques questions the nature of man and Rosalind finds herself in over her head as Ganymede, will these foru couples find the liberty in their banishment?

Volta by Carrie Cheung

Volta by Carrie Cheung

In their final broadcast, a travel radio show makes a drastic content pivot - through a series of monologues, half of a radio host duo and their intrepid intern start telling stories about cities that don’t exist.

With each fantastical tale, the two grow increasingly more concerned about their missing fellow host, the show’s writer, who seems to be hiding something from them both. The only clue to what’s going on in the imaginary cities in their scripts

La Bella

La Bella

Inspired by the friendship between Renaissance painter, Sandro Botticelli, and his model and muse, Simonetta Vespucci, this new play nestles you into the middle of their unstable intimacy with warm comedy, offering relatable vignettes of youthfully intense feeling.

Suffragette and Durham University Classical Theatre presents 'La Bella'. An unsure artist, incongruent in high-class society, and a young bride, delivered to a new city, are thrown together to create something beautiful for the people that control them. What they end up producing is a delicate all-consuming relationship that will prove to be the most important of their lives. Inspired by the friendship between famed Renaissance painter, Sandro Botticelli, and his model and muse, Simonetta Vespucci. Their story is told through vignettes of the brief time they spend together in the artist’s studio before the deadly poison of the outside seeps in through cracks in the door.

Doctor Who!

Doctor Who!

Ooook! returns with its annual 'sitcom'. This year its Dr Who adapted by Harry Threapleton. The Doctor and Donna are investigating Adipose Industries and its mysterious weight loss pills, comically missing each other at every turn. They must work together to stop the Racnoss and her army of robot Santas.

Donna Noble’s life changed forever the day she met the Doctor. Years ago, on what was meant to be her wedding day, she found herself teleported into his Tardis (a bigger on the inside police box that can travel through time and space) and found herself in a battle against a creature from another world.

But then the pair parted ways and life went back to normal. Determined to do good in the world and hopeful to find the Doctor again, Donna investigates Adipose Industries and their supposedly miraculous weight loss pills. Little does she know that the Doctor is there also, and that the pair of them will have to contend with an all new, much cuter threat.

Adapted from the hilarious episodes “The Runaway Bride” and “Partners In Crime”, this play is a non-stop rollercoaster of energy, thrills and fun that traverses time and space.
