The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time

Christopher, a fifteen year old, stands beside Mrs Shears’ dead dog. It has been speared with a garden fork, it is seven minutes after midnight, and Christopher is under suspicion.

He records each fact in the book he is writing to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington. He has an extraordinary brain and is exceptional at maths, but he is ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers.

But Christopher’s detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a frightening journey that turns his world upside-down.

Treasure Island

Treasure Island

It's a dark and stormy night. Jim, the inn-keeper's granddaughter, opens the door to a terrifying stranger. At the old sailor's feet sits a huge sea-chest, full of secrets. Jim invites him in - and her dangerous voyage begins.

Durham Student Theatre presents its annual Freshers’ Play, this year taking on Robert Louis Stevenson’s iconic Treasure Island adapted by Bryony Lavery. A tale of murder and mutiny, bounty and buccaneers, Lavery’s adaptation is an oftentimes comedic retelling of a pirate classic. Jim finds herself in a dangerous yet exciting world she is not used to. Through periods of rebellion, violence and her complex and manipulative relationship with Long John Silver, Jim learns how to grow up and make her own way in a new environment. This production will have every audience member riled up and ready to seek their own adventure.
