Bella in the Wych Elm/ Recorded

Bella in the Wych Elm/ Recorded

After the skeletonised remains of a woman are found stuffed into the trunk of a wych elm in Hagley Woods, graffiti begins to appear and gruesome theories begin to take form. We delve into the mind of a detective exploring the case but as they begin to lose control of the story we are left wondering not just Who put Bella in the Wych Elm but if we should be telling the story at all…

The unsolved murder known as ‘Who Put Bella in the Wych Elm?’ details the finding of the skeletonised remains of a woman found stuffed in a wych elm in a town near Birmingham. Soon after the body was found graffiti appeared around Birmingham asking ‘who put Bella in the wych elm?’ and many theories emerged about who the woman had been and how she had died. Her murder and identity remains unsolved today. The show follows a ‘detective’ who is presenting to an audience the story of the unsolved murder. She brings the stories and theories to life by animating figures and manipulating the show. However, as she digs further and become more adamant to reveal what truly happened the story begins get away from her leading us to question whether we should even be telling the story at all.

TOUCH/ Pre-recorded

Three children awaken at sea. A stormed has passed… …and another stirs on the distant horizon. In this oceanic limbo, dreams and nightmares swim just beneath the surface.

TOUCH is the first feature length production by UVTC. It is a unique story told without spoken word, communicated through music, movement and dance. In this wonderland, the waters are alive. As the children sail across this magical ocean, what dreams will rise from the azure waters? And what nightmares lurk in the blackened depths? As their pasts, presents and futures intertwine, the siblings will swim through a dimension only found in the wildest of children’s books. Can they ever sail to the sunrise?

Meeting Point

"And he's so, so nice, and doesn’t deserve you, or any of this – but that’s a hard thing to accept because you actually really like him.”

Sadie is cynical, grieving and a compulsive liar. Matt is polite, into poetry, and still terrified of relationships. They meet on Tinder, and agree to go on a date. And a few more. There’s something they’re not telling each other, and one day Matt learns something that makes him question their entire relationship. Meeting Point is about love, loss and lemon drizzle cake, a play about navigating relationships in the digital age and the things that go unsaid.
