Clever and quick-witted, Siegfried Sassoon thinks he knows what he wants. It is only in the middle of a war that he realises it might not be what he thought.
'For lust and senseless hatred make me glad, And my killed friends are with me where I go. Wound for red wound I burn to smite their wrongs; And there is absolution in my songs.' Siegfried Sassoon is a wealthy, upper-class boy who has been fed the idea that war brings honour and glory. As Sassoon grows as a poet, we realise it is the hand of grief and loss he has been dealt that will open his eyes to the truth of war. 'Absolution' covers the life of the war poet, Siegfried Sassoon, from childhood through to the Great War, telling his story through a mixture of drama and poetry.
