Eugene Onegin

Eugene Onegin

Eugene Onegin, originally set in 1820s St Petersburg and its surrounding countryside, follows the story of a selfish hero who lives to regret his rejection of a young woman’s love and his careless incitement of a fatal duel with his best friend. Adopted from Pushkin's  novel-in-verse, this Tchaikovsky masterpiece (in translation) is a stunning example of lyric opera.

Bank

Bank

The Foodbank sits like a war bunker; an abandoned city of tins and boxes trapped in a ceaseless cycle of poverty. In the past, lords would give tiny amounts to the starving poor as acts of “charity”. Power was disguised under the veil of charity. The alms-giving parish of old is replaced by the modern Foodbank, the church of the modern day. The Oxfordshire Rising is relived, and the tins are out of date.
