A Streetcar Named Desire

A Streetcar Named Desire

Tennessee William’s masterpiece unravels the complexities of Southern belle Blanche DuBois against the backdrop of post-war New Orleans whilst exploring sexuality and the dynamics of violence and desire.

A Streetcar Named Desire epitomises Tennessee William’s genius through its intricate exploration of sexuality and violence in post-war America. Blanche DuBois arrives in New Orleans to unite with her sister, Stella. She meets for the first time her Stella’s husband, Stanley Kowalski. Lost in an illusionary world and teetering over the edge, Blanche’s tumultuous mind gradually unravels as she develops an attraction for his friend and faces the thinly veiled suspicion of her brother-in-law. A Streetcar Named Desire questions the boundaries between violence and desire whilst untangling the troubled dynamic shared by trauma and victimisation.

Medea

Medea

Medea is betrayed. Her husband left her and their children for a younger woman; they face exile and disgrace. But Medea will not accept such disrespect passively. Consumed by fury and revenge, the strong-willed, fierce Medea seeks for the greatest revenge possible...

Our modern adaptation of the play, which integrates live jazz, gospel and soul music resonates with the rise of feminism today, weaving together the Ancient Greek tragedy with modern themes of injustice and feminism. The typical “femme fatale” takes on a new meaning destabilising typical ‘norms’ to explore gender conflict and the radical “otherness” that the play explores, breaking down the bridge between ancient and modern world.
