The Last Five Years

The Last Five Years

An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years.

DULOG is proud to present our production of The Last Five Years, the internationally acclaimed musical by Jason Robert Brown. The story explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. The show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy telling her story backwards, at the end of their marriage, while Jamie tells his story chronologically, when they first fall in love. There is therefore no mystery about what happened – the real question is about why.

Foundations/ Pre-recorded

A factory above, a factory below. Two worlds, existing side by side - until someone crosses the boundary.

MJ is a human who is sick of moving boxes around all day like a robot. Pins is a robot who doesn’t fit into the underground. When they meet in the space between their worlds, they form a friendship that blurs the boundaries of human and machine. Are we becoming machines? Are machines becoming too much like us? Is there another possibility? Foundations is a play about technology, love, and bad dancing, told through physical theatre and puppetry.

Macbeth/ Pre-recorded

Macbeth/ Pre-recorded

A court of all-female leads. Three male witches who look more like traders and journalists than hags on a moor. How much can we trust what we’re told to believe?

‘Treasons capital, confessed and proved.’ ‘Macbeth’ is a play about what happens offstage. This filmed adaptation asks us to examine how much we can trust what is being reported when we are kept at an arm’s length from the real action. Words fail to describe the unnameable as the cycle of violence repeats before our very eyes. It is hard to believe that you have all the power when everyone is lying to you.

Dear Elizabeth

Dear Elizabeth

A play of 400 letters, spanning three decades and tracking the complex and beautiful relationship of America's beloved poets, Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell.

“Asking you is the ‘might have been’ for me, the one towering change, the other life that might have been had. But I am sure it is the will of the heavens that all is as it is.” Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell were two of America’s most brilliant poets. Throughout their lifetime, they wrote over 400 letters to eachother, spanning decades, continents, political eras and tumultuous periods in their own lives. Their connection was messy and profound, platonic yet romantic: a love that resists easy definition. These are their words, compiled and compressed by award-winning playwright Sarah Ruhl.

A Night of Classical... Recorded

A Night of Classical... Recorded

DUCT presents a night of classical theatre, with ‘The Lovers’, a dark adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, followed by a modern adaptation of ‘Everyman’, the Medieval morality play.

DUCT presents a double-bill of student-written adaptations of classical plays! ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ is a magical romp through a forest. ‘The Lovers’ asks whether it is quite so comedic when the trappings of fairies and mechanicals fall away, leaving us with a broken man begging us for answers. We must face the fact that we can give him none. ‘Everyman’ both isolates us and brings us together as we follow one man's journey to the afterlife. Filled with more questions than answers, we confront our own mortality in Everyman's journey to discover what it is that makes us human.

Eight

Eight

Ella Hickson's Eight is a dark, touching, and often funny portrayal of life in an age of excess: excess sex, excess commercialism, excess freedom (filmed under approved COVID exemptions).

Astrid is cheating on her boyfriend. Danny talks to dead people. Andre's partner just killed himself. Bobby is struggling to make ends meet. This state of the nation portrait questions who we have become in a world with with an abundance of everything except for self belief, and a little bit of faith.
