A (Regular) Week at Jimmy's

A (Regular) Week at Jimmy's

Wouldn’t it be fun to be a fly on the wall in the smoking area of the Durham club Jimmy's? Imagine all the crazy conversations you would overhear.

Lion Theatre Company is excited to be bringing a student-written comedy to the DST scene. This play based (very loosely) on true events, follows a skit for each night of the week from Monday through Sunday, where we meet students from every clique.

Performing in the first week of summer term, hopefully these characters will provide a well-deserved break from procrastination, reminding you of the countless nights in Jimmy’s to come post-exam season. Take a break from studying and join us for a laugh! (Warning: make sure to visit Hatfield bar beforehand!)

'milk teeth' & 'Incremental'

'milk teeth' & 'Incremental'

Rocket and First are teaming up to bring you ‘milk teeth’ by Maariya Khalid and ‘Incremental’ by Max Shanagher, a student writing double-bill exploring the depths of the human psyche.

Following her (hot) therapist’s advice, Zenab buys a doll to reconnect with her inner child. But the moment she takes it out the box, she can’t help but feel a strange connection to it. ‘milk teeth’ is about lost love, motherhood, and loneliness, showcasing how quickly a woman can unravel.

Marcus and Sophia walk into a shop. This simple premise is explored to its absurdist extent in an existential play where audiences watch a scene unfold repeatedly with incremental changes. ‘Incremental’ explores power dynamics within relationships and the extent to which even the smallest of changes can have monumental effects...

Content Warnings: Milk Teeth: Infanticide/ sexual harassment/ abuse/ bereavement/ mentions of misogyny/ mentions of abortion/ mentions of suicide. Incremental: Violence

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee

George and Martha’s sadistic game-playing and vitriolic verbal scrapping reaches its climax in a momentous revelation.

Albee’s play examines the complexities of the marriage of a middle-aged couple, Martha and George. Late one evening, after a university faculty party, they receive an unwitting younger couple, Nick and Honey, as guests, and draw them into their bitter and frustrated relationship. Set in 1960s New England, the play delves into George and Martha’s ‘games’ and the fantasies that they hide themselves in.
