The Oaks

DUCC presents a choral celebration of the British Countryside, Memory and the Divine, with music from the renaissance to the present day.

Durham University Chamber Choir presents ‘The Oaks’, a choral celebration of the British Countryside, Memory and the Divine.

The programme encapsulates musical imagery of earthly and heavenly beauty. The first half circles around the music of Durham alumnus, Patrick Hawes, the “Vauday Part Songs”, written as a reflection of the Grimsthorpe Castle Estate. The concert will feature music from the present, compositions by 20th century composers, such as Gurney’s powerful “Since I Believe in God the Father Almighty” and back to early Renaissance polyphony with Gombert’s solemn motet, “Media Vita”.
