BEATS

BEATS

In 1994 the Criminal Justice Act effectively outlawed raves, banning public gatherings around amplified music characterised by ‘the emission of a succession of repetitive beats.’

With a live DJ and video, Beats tells the story of Johnno McCreadie, a teenager living in a small suburban Scottish town at the time of the act. A coming-of-age story exploring rebellion, apathy, and the irresistible power of gathered youth.

All Over Lovely

All Over Lovely

Two women, ghosts from each other’s pasts, meet before a funeral. One of them maintains defiantly that lipstick and a Porsche is not a betrayal of feminism; the other’s anarchist principles have turned into an organic fruit and vegetable company who supply to Sainsbury’s. A biting dialogue about adolescent sexual awakening, politicised lesbianism and womanhood, 'All Over Lovely' slowly reveals that their childhood turns out to be darker than at first glance...

Working

Working

The hopes, dreams, joys and concerns of the average working American are the focus of this unique, extraordinary musical. That the everyday lives of common men and women should be so compelling and moving will surprise and inspire anyone who has ever punched a time clock.

Based on Studs Terkel's best-selling book of interviews with American workers, Working paints a vivid portrait of the men and women that the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the phone operator, the waitress, the millworker, the mason and the housewife, just to name a few. Nominated for six Tony Awards, this classic has been updated for a modern age, featuring new songs by Tony Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as favorites by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia and James Taylor.

The Yellow Wallpaper

The Yellow Wallpaper

An original student adaptation of ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’. The show tells the story of a Victorian woman driven to madness by dehumanising and destructive psychological treatment. Her husband and the doctor have agreed she should be confined to her bed in an isolated mansion to overcome her ‘hysteria’ after the birth of her child. She craves intellectual stimulation, activity, and loving understanding. Instead she is ordered to her bedroom to rest and ‘pull herself together’. Here, slowly but surely, the tortuous pattern of the yellow wallpaper winds its way into the recesses of her mind.
