Meet Kevin Brook. Self confessed fanatic of all things Lord of the Rings. On the eve before ‘Gandalf’ signs the official movie companion to the The Two Towers, he sits outside Fenwick’s waiting. He talks about his life-long devotion, friends who don’t understand him – and the family who never had time for him.
But what’s the real reason for his obsession with Tolkien? Why must he take his mind away from the harsh realities of life? A long-held secret is about to be revealed…
Waiting for Gandalf is produced by Mankind, a Sussex-based charity that provides confidential support services and works with men who have been affected by unwanted sexual experiences, as part of its Community Squared programme. Written by Adrian Marks, it was originally directed by Teresa Hagger for the 2016 Brighton Fringe.
For the return to this year's Brighton Fringe, Mankind has worked with acclaimed writer and theatre director, Patrick Sandford, to contextualise the narrative within a wider consideration of the issues at play in today’s society. This builds on the award-winning success of Patrick’s one man show, GROOMED, extending Mankind’s portfolio of plays and performances that challenge traditional stereotypes around masculinity.
